U4GM Tips Hold the orange sub off angle on Protocol BO7 Ranked

In BO7 Ranked, you don't really lose fights because your shot's bad. You lose because you're stood where everyone expects you to be. Protocol is the best example of that, especially the mid area wrapped around that big orange submarine. It's the sort of place where one tiny step changes the whole gunfight. If you're trying to clean up your decision-making (or you're watching how higher brackets move while looking into CoD BO7 Boosting), this is a spot worth learning properly, because mid control on Protocol decides rounds fast.

Why the "safe" corner keeps getting you killed

Most defenders do the same thing: they back into the tight corner behind the sub and hold their crosshair at chest height, waiting for a hero push. It feels logical. You've got cover, you've got a line, and you're "hidden." But good players aren't guessing. They've seen that corner a thousand times, so they slide out already shooting, or they shoulder the angle and pre-fire before your character even loads into their brain. If you're sat in the obvious pocket, you're basically donating first blood and giving up mid pressure for free.

The small strafe that flips the gunfight

Instead, use a tiny move to the right. Not a big walk. Not a wide swing. Just enough to stop being perfectly lined up with that pre-aimed corner. You're building an off-angle, and it messes with their muscle memory. You'll see it happen: they come flying out, bullets go straight into the empty spot they expected, and their aim has to "find" you. That half-second is everything. You're already steady, already ready, and you get to shoot while they're correcting. It's not magic. It's just being slightly annoying in the right place.

Don't overcook it, and stack the angle with info

There's a limit, though. Strafe too far and you're exposed to the front headglitch line, plus anyone pinching mid from the other side. The sweet spot is where the sub still breaks sightlines for you, but you're not glued to the back wall. A good way to learn it is simple: 1) start in the normal corner, 2) strafe right until the corner isn't visible to you anymore, 3) strafe back a hair until you can just barely see the swing. Pair it with info too. If your teammate calls one top or you hear a sprint cue, you can hold the off-angle; if it's quiet, you can tuck back and live.

Making mid feel easy

Once you've got this down, Protocol mid stops feeling like a coin flip. You're not "hoping" they don't check you—you're betting they check the wrong place, because most people do. Work it into your rotations, mix it up with a quick re-peek or a reset behind the sub, and you'll start winning those ugly mid trades that swing entire maps. If you're trying to climb without burning out, a lot of players also look at CoD BO7 Boosting buy as a way to keep momentum while they tighten up stuff like this spot on Protocol.
